Web Design Corporation for sale. It is a small business owned only by me.
The business has been founded in 2009 and now reaches top Google ranking for specific keywords in the Calgary web design industry. I've invested a lot of time in organic SEO to reach this target.
Due to this high ranking I get around 80 genuine natural leads per year which is just too much for an established single web developer. Because I've been busy with my historical clients and two other businesses I've been running, it's been a year and a half that I have not taken a single new client. Instead I'm reselling the leads to third-party Calgary web design companies, ranked lower on Google.
I've never wanted to grow this business in order to keep my independence and preserve my lifestyle (I love my family, sports and travel), this is the reason it is still a one-man business even if I'm doing a bit of subcontracting. But the potential is there believe me, and by answering all the natural Search Engine leads you can easily feed 2 or 3 extra mouths on the long run!
The reason I am selling the business is because I want to focus on other projects I have been working on lately and I don't have enough time to do everything. This one being my oldest business, I think that's the time for me to sell it to a motivated and serious web designer/developer. There're only 18 working hours in a day and it's not enough for everything I want to achieve ;).
Who is the perfect buyer to me?
Selling a business is like selling your child. It's a hard decision and you don't want to sell it to the first comer. I've been building my reputation on ethics and honesty towards my clients for years. I want the buyer to share the same values as it will be critical for the smoothness of the transition. High quality customer relationship is key in this business. The competition is tough and honesty is key.
I think the perfect buyer would be someone interested in becoming his/her own boss in the ever changing world of web design and who don't want to take the risk to start from scratch and not finding enough clients. Or you can be the owner of an existing web design company struggling to get new contracts. Buying this company is a risk-free move in regards to incoming business flow as long as you do your job properly and respect your customers, I can guarantee it!
The company is a virtual web design company. I don't have a brick-and-mortar office. You can basically work from anywhere with a laptop and an Internet connection and that's what I have been doing for the last 5 years. The local Calgary phone number is a VoIP phone number and the mailing address is the one of my accountant who is cashing the cheques.
I am basically working 40% of a normal week day to get the financial results you're seeing below. The rest of the time I'm focused on my other businesses, I take care of my family, travel and/or do sports. I'm not writing this to make you dream. That's really how I live, I don't make millions but that's an easy life. It wasn't always like this, the first years were way tougher! But now the company has reached a critical amount of clients (around 100) and is highly ranked on Google, the business is secure.

Home-based business, virtual office
The expansion could be huge: there's an average of 80 organic leads per year unanswered. If you convert a third of the leads (you can do better ;)), that's 27 leads/year x 2500 dollars average per contract = 67500 dollars extra per year and I'm not even talking about hosting and maintenance that comes with each new contracts.
The competition is tough as everybody wants to become a freelance web designer!
Our prices are fair but highly competitive as we don't have overhead. We are very rarely refused by a prospect because of pricing.
Marketing is easy as the Google ranking is high (and I haven't worked on it for 2 years, so I let you imagine if you work on it a bit!)
Focused on two other businesses, this one is the oldest and I want to move on to new projects. I don't have time to manage everything!
I usually work from 8am to 4pm, week days.
Always available by email or by phone, I can offer a one year 7 days a week support after the sale. That will have to be included in the purchase price negotiation of course.
What is 100% sure is that I will never disappear after the sale. I have too much consideration and respect for my clients to do this.
