Demand for agricultural land in Canada is on the rise, driven by increasing costs in the supermarket and a greater interest in locally sourced and organic foods. The search for alternatives to cows' milk has made goats a popular dairy animal, while raising rare breed cattle and pigs for meat also helps to conserve them. Traditionally, farms have been handed down through families, but as new generations turn to new occupations, historic farms and farm buildings have started to appear on the market. Sites not formerly used for farming can be utilised for crops or grazing, if the land is suitable and permission obtained.
