7 machines in 6 high quality locations. I also have two locations secured for an expansion initiative next September, and am working to secure one or two more.

Over the past six years I've worked exhaustively to secure my small business' place here in the very competitive Saskatoon market, and now it's time to hand the torch to someone else to take things to the next level. I started this business as a side hustle, but it definitely has the potential to grow into a much larger entity, and even become a full-time thing. Unfortunately, I simply don’t have the time to focus on it the way it deserves, as I’m currently working on building another business, and that one’s going to take every ounce of my time.

If you’ve explored the vending world even a little bit, you’ve likely come across vending franchises, and all of their glorious promises. Please avoid them!! Most of the time their support ends up being minimal, if any, and brand-new entrants into this business find themselves completely on their own, with no plan, and no idea how to make a run at this, and they invariably fail. I’ve seen it so many times. In almost all cases, the franchise’s ultimate goal is to simply sell machines, and once they’ve done that, they’re done with you. And in every single case I’ve seen, they sell you very low-quality machines, with limited capacity, poor construction, low quality hardware, weak software and limited functionality. Please know this, not all vending machines and associated hardware are created equal. There is a VAST range. Which is why I decided to learn everything I could about the industry, the players, locations, machines and vending tech, etc., and built my business from the ground up, and I opted for top of the line machines.

Vending is far trickier than you can imagine, so it’s incredibly important that you do the research before getting into it, especially before buying machines, or buying into a franchise. If you start from scratch, it will take a considerable amount of time to establish a route and develop relationships to get into solid locations. Seriously, it takes a ton of time to identify, source, approach, uncover the decision maker, sell to the decision maker, and finally move into new locations, especially the good ones…I’m talking months, or even years. And that’s just one of the major aspects of the business. Without good locations, your business is worthless.

So the best option, which is a rare opportunity, is to buy an established business like mine, with machines already located (which took hundreds of hours, multiple moves, and lots of phone calls, emails and in-person visits to secure), attractive branded machines, products to get you started, a solid supply chain mapped out, hundreds of hours spent developing the diverse mix of products I offer (I don’t generally offer normal/traditional products, I offer better), a Canadian UPC database developed (by me), which is coded into the machines, a remote monitoring system already established, and extremely high quality refrigerated combo machines with full glass front panels, 56 product slots, high quality sensors and built-in technology, a Linux operating system, telemeters for remote communication, coin mechs, bill stackers, and cashless tech. And best of all, I’ll stay on in a consultancy role, for as long as you need me. I want my business to carry on and thrive with its new owners.

The price I’ve listed might seem high, but remember, this is for the full business. And you’re also probably comparing it to unplaced machines, or to low-grade machines placed in mediocre locations. So, if you see a low price tag, that’s probably why. The locations are a large component of a machine’s valuation. Without a location, they’re just expensive refrigerators.
